A visit to the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, MA belongs on the itinerary of any tour of New England. You’ll enjoy learning about and viewing the incredible works of one of America’s most famous artists in a charming setting. The spacious grounds of the Museum also feature Norman Rockwell’s studio, and special traveling exhibits are hosted here regularly. 

The Norman Rockwell Museum holds the largest collection of Rockwell art in the world. Visitors delight in seeing their favorite Saturday Evening Post covers in person. The colors and details of Rockwell’s art are astounding when viewed up close and in person. In addition to his paintings and drawings, you can also see and study thousands of photographs, letters and other Rockwell mementos at the Museum.  

Norman Rockwell created so many beloved masterpieces, it is impossible to identify all of the incredible works you will see at the Museum. A few of the highlights from the Museum’s collection presently on view include the Four Freedoms paintings from 1943, his famous Triple Self-Portrait from 1960, and the ever popular Girl at Mirror from 1954. In addition to these famous paintings, visitors can also see many rare, unseen works from both private and public Rockwell collections.

Nearly everyone can identify Norman Rockwell’s Saturday Evening Post cover art. You can view the complete collection of Saturday Evening Post cover tear sheets featuring Rockwell’s artwork between 1916 and 1963. This is a wonderful opportunity to study the progression of Rockwell’s illustrations throughout the course of his career.

In addition to viewing Rockwell artwork and other items at the Museum, you can also tour his Stockbridge studio building. The artist’s belongings and art materials are included in the studio exhibit. You will see his personal art library, decorative items, furnishings, mementos and other items he collected. Rockwell’s studio provides a vivid and enlightening glimpse of Rockwell’s personality as well as his artwork.

Special seasonal exhibits are featured at the Norman Rockwell Museum and grounds in addition to Rockwell-themed exhibits. There is a fascinating exhibit entitled “In Full Bloom: Artists Design Garden Gates” currently on display at the grounds. This is an exciting and beautiful outdoor exhibit featuring works by a variety of artists. Another visiting exhibit presently on display at the Rockwell Museum features the political art of Steve Brodner. The election of 2008 is the focal point of the artwork included in this highly entertaining exhibit.
