Tons to Do at the EcoTarium. Located in Worchester, Massachusetts, the EcoTarium is a unique museum that is quite popular with locals as well as visitors. The museum has exhibits both indoors and outside, all of which are quite interesting.
Founded as the Worcester Lyceum of Natural History in 1825, the museum has gone through several name changes but remains focused on the study of science and nature.
Those who come to the museum will find a number of different exhibits, animals, and nature trails, all of which are educational and entertaining.
Visitors will find a variety of exhibits, both rotating and permanent, to enjoy. The following are a few of the popular exhibits on the museum grounds.
At the Water Planet Exhibit, guests will learn all about the importance of water, how different animals use it, and methods of conserving. At the Freshwater Ecosystems area of the museum, you can see many different types of small creatures that make the water their home. Check out the turtles, frogs, fish, and more.
In the unique MicroDiner, which is a replica of a 1950s style restaurant, you can use a microscope to look at items such as pond water and seashells. You can get hands on in the Look, Touch, Explore exhibit. You can see birds' nests, animal tracks, insects and more.
As for the animals, guest to the museum will be able to see some of their favorite creatures. A few of the animals you might encounter at the EcoTarium are a bald eagle, a boa constrictor, a great horned owl, a wood turtle, a red fox, and even a mighty polar bear.
Nature trails are also another popular part of the EcoTarium. You can choose from among three beautiful walking trails, each of which has something different to offer the intrepid explorer. The Vibram Walking Trail loops around Lower Pond, while the Timescape Trail has interpretive signs for the hiker, and the Meadow Trail is a nice walk through some beautiful New England fields.
Children and their parents will have a grand time in the Discovery Room, where they can play with puppets at the puppet theater, read books, and even play with some ferrets.
The museum is open year round. Hours of operation from Tuesday through Saturday are 10AM to 5PM, and on Sunday from noon until 5PM. Admission for adults is $10, children, seniors, and students will pay $8. Children under 3 are free.
