New England Aquarium - Boston, Massachusetts

Explore the New England Aquarium in Boston

The New England Aquarium is one of the most exciting and fun attractions to visit in Boston. There are hundreds of fascinating and beautiful fish, birds and animals to see here in a variety of natural habitat exhibits. Penguins, seal lions, green sea turtles, sharks, rays, leafy sea dragons and the giant Pacific octopus are just some of the creatures you will meet and learn about at the New England Aquarium.

The first and most prominent exhibit you will see when entering the New England Aquarium is the elaborate Penguin exhibit. More than 65 Penguins live in this beautiful first floor exhibit. Each of three species of Penguins has its own rock islands and swimming pool areas. You’ll see rockhoppers, little blue penguins and African penguins up close in this spacious, beautiful and entertaining exhibit.

The penguin display is visible from every floor of the Aquarium, so you can enjoy viewing and hearing them from a variety of perspectives during your visit. Penguin feedings and informative Penguin Presentations are scheduled throughout the day.

The penguin display surrounds the Aquarium’s Giant Ocean Tank display, a towering exhibit which extends through every floor in the Aquarium. This gigantic 200,000 gallon salt water tank features approximately 600 fish and sea creatures.

You will see a giant green sea turtle as well as Kemp’s Ridley and loggerhead sea turtles in the Giant Ocean Tank. Barracuda, stingrays, sand tiger sharks and eels and many beautiful Caribbean coral reef fishes also inhabit the tank. Although you can view the creatures in the Giant Ocean Tank on your own, guided tours and special behind-the-scenes tours are also available at New England Aquarium.

The harbor seals are another popular attractions at the New England Aquarium. You can see the seals in part of their outdoor tank and watch a training session while you wait to purchase your ticket. You can see more of the seals as they swim, play or rest on the rocks in their special open air exhibit after admission.

The Seadragon exhibit at New England Aquarium is one of the many fascinating and beautiful displays you will see during your visit. Both leafy and weedy seadragons are on display, camouflaging in their special Australian temperate reef habitat tank. The Gulf of Maine, Amazon Rainforest, Pacific Reef Community and Touch Tank exhibits are just a few of the many other exciting attractions you won’t want to miss at the Aquarium.
