Fall River Carousel – Battleship Cove, Massachusetts

Bring Back the Good Old Days at the Fall River Carousel at Battleship Cove. The early 1900s were considered by many to be the Golden Age of the wooden carousel. During this time, a variety of companies built many different carousels. The Philadelphia Toboggan Company built the Fall River Carousel, known also as Carousel #54, which is located at Battleship Cove, Massachusetts.

The carousel has been an attraction in the area for well over eighty years, making it one of the oldest operating carousels in the country. Generations of people from New England, as well as those who travel to the area for vacation, have many fond memories of the carousel.

Carousel #54 was once a part of the Lincoln Park amusement park, which fell into disrepair in the early 1990s. Though the park is gone, the carousel remains. The refurbished carousel sits in a beautiful Victorian pavilion and overlooks the impressive Battleship Cove.

Today, those who have loved the carousel for decades can take their children and grandchildren out to ride on the hand carved marvel. It makes a wonderful place to spend the day, relaxing and taking in the fresh air.

When you head out to the carousel, chances are that you and the rest of the family are going to work up an appetite. If that’s the case, head to the Carousel Café and grab a bite to eat and a cool drink. You can have some traditional favorites, such as burgers and fries, or clam cakes, a tasty food that is decidedly New England in nature.

The Fall River Carousel is open seasonally. From June 23 to September 1, it is open 11AM to 5PM seven days a week. From September 2 through October 13, it is open from 11AM to 5PM on weekends only. If you want to book a special event or a birthday party at the carousel, it is open year round.

To find out more about the Fall River Carousel and to arrange for parties at the carousel, you can visit their website at battleshipcove.org/carousel.

Kids who have never been to the area will love the carousel, and those who grew up with the carousel will be able to relive all of their happy memories. The Fall River Carousel, as well as all of the other interesting places to see at Battleship Cove, is a place that the whole family will enjoy.
